After
working for three big companies for 13 years, John teamed up with his
wife, Pam, in 1986 to start their own business focused on how new technologies
would impact traditional media. John’s perspective on quality came
from his experience at these major firms.
Johnson & Johnson – consumer packaged goods/product
management
AT&T (back when the Bell System was the telephone industry) –
strategic planning and new technologies
Dow Jones – introducing online services, software, interactive
cable and audiotex products to skeptical consumers
The Kelsey Group was established to help publishing
companies understand and profit from emerging technologies. Importantly,
the focus is on marketing, rather than on the technology itself. Over
the past 20 years, John has managed and facilitated the growth of The
Kelsey Group from a small consultancy to a full-service business intelligence
firm specializing in local media.
Today, The Kelsey Group offers Continuous Advisory Services
built on the foundation of experienced analysts with firsthand knowledge
of the marketplace and access to every major decision maker. Our single-minded
focus on Yellow Pages, online and mobile directories, and interactive
local media assures clients that they will get the mission-critical analysis
that they need to make decisions. The company also conducts consulting,
sponsors proprietary research, develops reports and other published materials
and holds conferences. John has been an active participant in trade associations
relevant to the company’s marketing focus, including the YPA, ADP,
ADM, EADP, Information Industry Association, Interactive Services Association
and the Internet Local Advertising & Commerce Association. Both John
and Pam are active in various community organizations in Princeton, New
Jersey, where they have lived for 30 years and raised two children.
John received a B.A. in Economics from Brown University
and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia’s Colgate Darden Graduate
Business School.
