John Hanke, product director for Google Maps, Local and Earth, has an accomplished career in the world of interactive software where he has pursued advances in technology to pioneer new kinds of products.

In the early days of the Web, Hanke was involved in the start-up of one of the first massively multi-player online 3-D games ("Meridian 59"), which was acquired by 3DO in 1996. He cofounded a second company, Big Network, to pursue "casual gaming" online. That company was acquired by eUniverse in 2000. He cofounded Keyhole in 2001 to create a new kind of global 3-D map of the world. He forged partnerships with Sony, Nvidia, CNN and others as the company introduced its "earth browser" to the world. Keyhole was acquired by Google in October 2004. The Keyhole technology reemerged as "Google Earth" in July 2005.

After receiving his M.B.A. from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley in 1996 and B.A. in Plan II from The University of Texas at Austin, Hanke worked in foreign affairs for the U.S. government in Washington, D.C., and Southeast Asia.

Jay Herratti is the president of Citysearch, a leading provider of local search services. In this role, he is responsible for all aspects of the Citysearch business.

Herratti previously served as the senior vice president of strategic planning for IAC, where he was responsible for collaborating with and supporting the businesses of IAC in the development of their strategic plans. While at IAC, he also briefly served as interim CEO of IAC Advertising Solutions. Prior to that, Herratti served as the senior vice president of strategy and business development for HSN and Electronic Retailing. In this capacity, he worked closely with senior management to chart IAC’s course for expansion in the broad world of direct to consumer retailing. Before joining HSN, Herratti held the position of senior vice president of e-business strategy and development for Federated Department Stores. In this role, he led the company’s development of a direct-to-consumer division with the acquisition and consolidation of multiple catalog and online businesses. He also championed Federated’s multi-channel integration initiative, and was in charge of its cross-division bridal registry business and its partnership with weddingchannel.com.

Before Federated, Herratti held numerous senior level positions with Boo.com Group, The Boston Consulting Group and GE Capital. At BCG, he worked with clients in retail, media and financial services. Prior to that he founded and operated “White by Herratti,” his own chain of novelty retail specialty stores selling all white apparel and gifts for women.

Herratti has a B.S. in business and management from the University of Maryland at College Park and an M.B.A. from INSEAD in Fontainbleu, France.

Intuit

Allison Mnookin is a vice president and general manager in Intuit’s Small Business Division.  She is responsible for leading a portfolio of businesses representing more than $500M in revenues to the company. Her teams develop and market the QuickBooks Pro and Premier financial software products, QuickBooks Point of Sale solutions for retailers, and Intuit’s Checks and Supplies business.  She is also currently leading Intuit’s strategy to help small businesses grow through marketing and customer management offerings.

Prior to this position, Mnookin held several other general management roles at Intuit and led product management for the QuickBooks product line.  In those roles, she led teams that launched several of Intuit’s new offerings, including many industry-specific products and the first up-market versions of QuickBooks. 

Prior to joining Intuit in July 1998, Mnookin held several sales and marketing positions with Oracle Corp. At Oracle she led the business case and product management for Oracle’s first e-commerce initiative, the Oracle store. Mnookin holds an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and a B.A. from Harvard College.

Palihapitiya joined Facebook from The Mayfield Fund, a leading venture capital firm in Silicon Valley where he was focused on consumer Internet, advertising and media investments. Prior to Mayfield, he spent five years with AOL, most recently as vice president and general manager of AIM and ICQ, with complete responsibility and oversight of two of the biggest and most popular
brands on the Internet.

Palihapitiya began his career as a derivatives trader before leaving finance to work for Internet music pioneers Spinner.com and Winamp. He grew up in Canada and graduated First Class Honors in electrical engineering from the University of Waterloo.

Jake Winebaum is president of RHD Interactive and was the founder and chief executive of Business.com. He is also cofounder of eCompanies, which, in addition to Business.com, founded Jamdat (JMDT, sold to EA), Boingo, USBX Advisory Services, and was the lead investor in Lower My Bills (sold to Experian).

Prior to Business.com and eCompanies, Winebaum held several senior management at The Walt Disney Co., including chairman of Buena Vista Internet Group (BVIG), overseeing Disney.com, ESPN.com, ABCNews.com, ABC.com and Family.com; president of Disney Online, where he led the team that developed and executed the expansion of the Disney brand onto the Internet beginning in 1994; and president of Walt Disney Magazine Publishing. He also founded both FamilyFun and FamilyPC magazines and served as president, editor and publisher of both publications. Winebaum sold FamilyFun to The Walt Disney Co. in 1992.

Prior to FamilyFun, Winebaum served as senior vice president of marketing at U.S. News & World Report. He also founded and served as president of U.S. News Productions, a television production company. Prior to that position, Winebaum worked for Time Warner at Fortune and Time magazines.

Winebaum is a Dartmouth College graduate.

Jason Calacanis, CEO, Mahalo.com

Jason McCabe Calacanis is the founder and CEO of Mahalo.com, a human-powered search engine focused on the top English-language search terms, including verticals such as travel, products, news, entertainment, sports, food and health.

Prior to Mahalo.com’s launch in alpha in May 2007, he was an “Entrepreneur in Action" at Sequoia Capital, Silicon Valley's leading venture capital firm, a position he held since December 2006. 

Calacanis cofounded and was the CEO of Weblogs, a network of popular weblogs that was sold to AOL in November 2005. Upon joining AOL, he was appointed senior vice president. In addition, he was named general manager of AOL’s Netscape and was responsible for the July 2006 relaunch of the iconic browser as a social bookmarking news site.

Prior to forming Weblogs, Calacanis was the founder of Rising Tide Studios, a media company that published the magazines Silicon Alley Reporter and Digital Coast Reporter. The flagship publication later became Venture Reporter, a venture capital database, and was sold to Dow Jones.

Calacanis has a B.A. in psychology from Fordham University. 

 

 

 

Christophe Maire, Head Location-Based Experience Development, Nokia

Maire is a veteran in the high-tech industry with more than 15 years entrepreneurial and investing track record in media- and mobile communications-related technology areas.  He currently serves as Head of Location Based Experience Development, Find New in Nokia´s Multimedia Business Group, for Nokia. Maire is responsible for developing the advertising business within Nokia location based experience.

In 2000, Maire co-founded gate5 AG, the Berlin-based pioneer in mobile mapping & community service before selling the company to Nokia in late 2006. He led the company through multiple phases of venture financing and in turn grew gate5 to Euro 18 Mio in sales.

Before that, Maire was Managing Director of Babelsberg’s FXcenter, one of Europe’s largest digital media production venture, raising equity from Bertelsmann, Vivendi and Deutsche Telekom ($100m total funding). He also co-initiated CyberCinema, the first European network of electronic cinema venues. He started is career in Japan as innovations manager for Japanese group TOTO k.k.

Maire is further involved in a number of film & internet ventures as co-founder, early stage investor and board member. Maire has spoken at conferences on entrepreneurship in Europe and internet communities related topics.

A Swiss citizen, he studied business & administration at the University of St. Gallen and Barcelona and attended executive education in NYU and Stanford graduate school of business.

Daniel McCarthy, Chairman and CEO, NCI

Since May 2002, Daniel McCarthy has served as NCI's chairman and chief executive officer as well as the chairman and CEO of its ultimate parent company, Gallarus Media Holdings (GMH), which was created in January 2005 to facilitate acquisition by Citigroup Venture Capital.

From 2000 to 2001, McCarthy served as president and CEO of Themestream, a special interest Web portal. Prior to Themestream, he was president and CEO of PRIMEDIA Enthusiast Group, the largest publisher of consumer special interest magazines. Before joining PRIMEDIA, McCarthy was president and CEO of Cowles Business Media, a business-to-business publishing company serving the media and marketing industries. He started his career with Communications Trends, a business intelligence company serving the media and information industries.

Stuart McKelvey, President and CEO, TMP Directional Marketing

Stuart McKelvey has headed TMP Directional Marketing since 1998. Under his leadership, TMPDM expanded its core business of Yellow Pages advertising into today's realm of local search, and made TMPDM both the world's largest directory advertising agency (responsible for nearly 25 percent of all nationally placed Yellow Pages advertising) and a major player in the local search marketplace. Previously McKelvey was interactive project manager at Monster.com and ran the Asia Pacific region of Monster Worldwide.

Under McKelvey, TMPDM pioneered "Directional Marketing" (advertising that consumers seek during their purchase process: print Yellow Pages, Internet Yellow Pages and search engines) long before "local search" became part of the world's media vocabulary.

A leader in integrating print directories with online vehicles like IYPs and search-based marketing, TMPDM creates local search programs that meld the best of the print and interactive worlds for 104 of the Fortune 500. TMPDM has 22 offices, and employs more than 750 people in the U.S. and Canada.

Jim Riesenbach, President and CEO, Autobytel

A veteran of online and digital media, James Riesenbach provides Autobytel Inc. with a balance of leadership experience, broad operational and marketing skills, and extensive domain expertise in Search, Local, Classifieds, and eCommerce. As President and CEO, his mission is to provide the web’s most convenient and comprehensive automotive consumer experience, in turn creating new marketing value – across the purchase and ownership lifecycle – for car dealers, automakers and other automotive marketers.

Under Riesenbach’s leadership, the Company launched its flagship site, MyRide.com, which combines cutting-edge original content with the first fully-integrated vertical search experience for the automotive marketplace.  Integrated into the site is an online automotive community showcasing multi-media user-generated content, as well as offering video and photo-sharing, audio podcasts, blogging and message boards. From 2001 to 2006, he served as Senior Vice President of AOL's Search and Directional Media Group, establishing the group as a significant and high-growth component of AOL's advertising mix. Before heading AOL Search in 2001, Riesenbach was a founder and principal leader in AOL's Local Group leading the growth of the network from fewer than 10 to more than 200 US markets and expanding its consumer and advertising offerings. Prior to joining AOL in 1996, he spent six years with Comcast Corporation. He holds a B.S. from Rutgers University.  Riesenbach also serves on Autobytel's Board of Directors.

 

 

 

Jorrit Van der Meulen, VP of Partner Relations, Zillow

Jorrit Van der Meulen is Vice President of Partner Relations at Zillow.com. Before joining Zillow.com, Jorrit was at Amazon for six years, serving in a number of senior management roles. Jorrit ran the toy, baby and video game businesses, and most recently led the launch and operations of Amazon's global DVD rental business. Prior to Amazon, Jorrit was the Director of Business Development for Oracle Applications, and worked in Sales and Marketing for Procter & Gamble. Jorrit graduated from the Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington, and has a Masters of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School.

As vice president and general manager of TheFeedRoom, Barrett managed the day-to-day operations for the NBC- and Tribune-backed broadband venture that became the number one source for streaming video news on the Web. Barrett was also vice president and general manager for interactive at Primedia Inc.'s Channel One Network, managing Internet operations and new platform product development, and he served as managing producer at ABCNEWS.com and deputy editor at TIME Online. Barrett began his career as a staff writer for The News & Observer in Raleigh, NC. Court Cunningham, CEO, Yodle
Court Cunningham joined Yodle in April 2007 as CEO. Prior to Yodle, Cunningham was COO at Community Connect, a niche social networking company, with responsibility for leading its consumer marketing, product management and development efforts.

Prior to Community Connect, Cunningham worked for five years as senior vice president and general manager of marketing automation at DoubleClick. In this role, he was responsible for the sales, product management, operations and the P&L of DoubleClick’s suite of hosted technology products for direct marketers.

Cunningham was instrumental in building out DoubleClick’s e-mail marketing product, DARTmail, and led the acquisitions of FloNetwork and MessageMedia. In four years, he built DARTmail into the industry leader where DoubleClick had more revenues, customers and e-mail delivery volume than any other player in the market. Before joining DoubleClick, he worked as a case team leader at Bain&Co., a Boston-based consulting firm.

Bill Day, Chief Media Officer, Marchex
Bill Day has served as Marchex's chief media officer since August 2007. Prior to joining Marchex, Day was the cofounder and CEO of About.com, a pioneer in providing vertically focused original consumer information and advice. He grew About.com to one of the most highly trafficked content destinations on the Internet, a top 20 global online media network covering more than 700 topics and 50,000 subjects used by tens of millions of monthly users to find highly targeted, useful information. While at About.com, he also pioneered contextual pay-per-click advertising through the launch of the Sprinks Network.

Following Primedia's acquisition of About.com in 2000, Day continued as CEO of About.com, running the division within Primedia through 2003. More recently, from 2004 to 2007, he served as CEO of MeMedia, a privately held behavioral advertising network.

Day received his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Yale University and his M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Gilbert has been entrenched in digital video marketing, content, and technology for over 10 years.  Prior to her current position at Atlas, she founded and was CEO of Left Bank Consulting, a digital video strategy consultancy specializing in the broadband and cable television industries.  Prior to founding Left Bank Consulting, she was vice president of sales, national accounts for Digeo, Inc., and held various sales leadership positions at Starz Entertainment.

Mark Gorenberg, Managing Director, joined Hummer Winblad Venture Partners in 1990. Mark has served as a board member for start-up and public software companies, including AdForce, HomeGrocer, NetDynamics and Scopus Technologies. Currently, he serves as a Director of Aria, Cenzic, Infopia, kwiry, Lathian Systems, ontheFRONTIER, Omniture(NASDAQ: OMTR), Replay Solutions and Tizor Systems. Mark is also a member of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Corporation (Board of Trustees).

Kevin Heisler is Search Engine Watch's executive editor and a search industry veteran. Prior to joining this publication, he was an analyst with Jupiter Research covering the search engine industry. Before Jupiter Research, he was vice president, strategic accounts, for 360i, an integrated digital marketing firm with its roots in search marketing. His experience in paid search marketing began with Did-it.com, where he launched the business development department, built the sales team and negotiated search marketing partnerships. Simon is the Director of Search at RedBoots, a digital marketing consultancy with a broad range of commercial and non-profit clients.  Prior to RedBoots, Simon worked for Innovectra, a local search company, for over 7 years, where he worked on a dozen small to medium size IYP sites, as well as over 700 small business sites. Simon writes for the In House column of SearchEngineLand, as well as for SearchEngineGuide, RBDRodeo, and his own blog SearchEngineTigers on a variety of Search Marketing topics. Simon will continue to lead search for RedBoots in 2008 under a new company name and brand, Serengeti Communications (www.serengeticom.com).  Serengeti will provide a full suite of digital marketing services, including design and development, conversion consulting, search, email, social media, banners, video, word of mouth, reputation management and Analytics.

Collin Holmes, VP, Product Management, V-Enable
Collin joins V-ENABLE to oversee and manage the development of products and features required by V-ENABLE and our partners and customers. His responsibilities include developing product roadmaps, business development and managing the process of bringing applications to market.

Mr. Holmes previously worked at Cingular Wireless as a business-to-business key account manager and Akamai as a product marketing manager.

Russell Horowitz is a founding officer of Marchex and has served as chairman of the board of directors, chief executive officer and treasurer since the company's inception in January 2003. Shawn Riegsecker is the founder of Centro and currently leads the company's strategic vision as its chairman and CEO. In addition, he previously managed day-to-day aspects of the company's sponsored search relationship with Overture Services prior to Yahoo!'s acquisition of the company.

Prior to his work for Yahoo! Search, Joel worked in business development for Yahoo! Consumer Services, where he was responsible for development and implementation of Yahoo!-branded Internet access services including services offered through alliances with SBC and other broadband and narrowband providers.

Before joining Yahoo!, Joel ran business development for Rentals.com until it was acquired by Primedia in 2001. Joel started his career as an attorney with Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati, where he represented and advised public and private companies, successfully navigating companies through a series of high-profile IPOs and acquisitions.

Chris Tolles, CEO, Topix
Chris Tolles came to Topix from Spoke Software, a business social networking company, where he was a cofounder and vice president of marketing. Before Spoke, Tolles was a director of marketing at AOL/Netscape for AOL Music, Netscape Search and Directory Products. He was a cofounder and vice president of marketing at NewHoo, and led the sale of the company to Netscape. After the acquisition, NewHoo was relaunched as the Open Directory Project at Netscape and became the world's largest human edited directory of the Web, and is still used by companies like Google, Alexa and AOL. Previous to NewHoo, he held a variety of sales, marketing and management positions at Sun Microsystems.

Tolles graduated from the University of California at San Diego with degrees in computer science and economics and was awarded the Michael J. Addison award for his senior thesis about the online information industry.

Jeff Torgerson, Manager - Product Management, Idearc Media Corp.
Jeff Torgerson, Manager - Product Management, is responsible for driving Idearc's mobile strategy and products. Prior to Idearc's acquisition of InfoSpace's online directory assets, Torgerson was a senior product manger for mobile local search at InfoSpace. During his time with InfoSpace, Torgerson managed the mobile local search application releases in J2ME, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Web 2.0. Torgerson also defined and launched the first ad-supported iPhone Web 2.0 application, which has since been widely received by the industry.

Torgerson has more than 12 years of engineering experience as a developer and product manager. Prior to joining InfoSpace, Torgerson owned and operated a private Web development company. He also spent two years at Boeing where he worked as part of the Web Management team for the company's main facility in Washington.

Torgerson graduated from the United States Air Force Technical College.

Matt Van Wagner, President, Find Me Faster
Matt Van Wagner is a seasoned sales and marketing professional specializing in search engine marketing strategies for small and medium-sized companies in New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts and Vermont. An award-winning speaker whose presentations are usually as entertaining as they are informative, Van Wagner is the president and founder of Find Me Faster, a search engine marketing firm based in Nashua, New Hampshire, and an early member of the Search Engine Marketing Professionals Organization (SEMPO). He writes on Internet, search engines and technology topics for the New Hampshire Business Review.

Van Wagner is a graduate of St. Lawrence University, Canton, New York (B.S. economics), with an M.B.A. from Rivier College, Nashua.

Joshua Walker, CEO, CityVoter
Throughout his career, Josh Walker has helped people take advantage of technology innovation to improve their businesses. Prior to founding CityVoter, he was an entrepreneur-in-residence at General Catalyst, an early-stage venture capital firm in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He joined General Catalyst after more than seven years at Forrester Research, a leading technology market research firm. At Forrester, Walker held several management positions and launched one of the fastest growing products in Forrester's history. When he left Forrester, he was vice president and director of the Consumer Markets research group.

Walker graduated from Middlebury College.

Jonathan Weber, Founder, Publisher and CEO, NewWest.Net
Jonathan Weber is the founder, publisher and CEO of NewWest.Net, a local and regional online publication about the Rocky Mountain West. Based in Missoula, Montana, NewWest.Net combines traditional reporting and writing with various forms of participatory journalism and community information services, and has local sites in 7 communities around the region. Prior to launching New West, Weber was the co-founder and editor in chief of the Industry Standard, the award-winning newsweekly that chronicled the dot-com boom. He also served eight years as a writer and editor at the Los Angeles Times, and before that was a European correspondent for Fairshild Publications. Weber holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Wesleyan University. He lives in Missoula with his wife Karen and family.

Ian White, CEO, Urban Mapping
Ian White is CEO of Urban Mapping, a company that produces wayfinding tools and solutions across the tactile and interactive domains. The company’s products include the multiple award-winning Panamap print map and Urbanware geospatial database products, all focusing around urban place. White has 15 years of experience in marketing strategy and product development. He has been published in academic journals and the business press.

Prior to founding Urban Mapping in 2003, White worked as a business consultant at and held various roles in business development and marketing. He also served as adjunct professor of design and management at Parsons School of Design in New York.
