Pre-Conference Bonus Sessions Open to All Marketplaces 2009 Registered
Attendees
Marketplaces 2009 attendees are invited to arrive early for two bonus
45-minute sessions focused on valuing and financing companies in today’s
environment.
Pre-Con
1: Valuing Web Properties
In today’s environment, it is critical to understand the value of your
business. Recently, we’ve all seen a major devaluation in many of the
publicly traded companies. In this panel discussion, we will talk about the
real impact this situation has had on your business. How has this
decline in value affected your shareholders? Has this devaluation
triggered any covenant defaults? What value can you support in
discussions with new investors? How would you go about valuing your
business? These are the tough questions we’ll be answering, as well as
questions you would like to submit during the event.
Tom Buono,
President and CEO, BIA Advisory Services
Rick Ducey,
Chief Strategy Officer, BIA Advisory Services
Pre-Con
2: Financing Web Properties
The
economic and credit crisis has also had a major impact on funding for
Internet and media businesses. In this second bonus panel, we bring in a
team of investors to discuss how they are viewing the funding
environment. They will discuss seed funding for start-ups, venture
funding for follow-up rounds and the debt marketplace. Is there funding
out there for early stage ventures? Can you get second round funding at
reasonable terms? Does a debt market exist for more developed companies?
This panel will provide an in-depth view of what is really going on for
companies in various stages of their life cycle in this uncertain
funding period. Most importantly, it will discuss the metrics that
investors are looking for when determining their investment.

Keynote Address: Jeff Berman, MySpace
The social network revolution has just begun to touch on local and
vertical sites. Among the top leaders is Fox Interactive Media’s
MySpace. In the past year, MySpace has made big headway with a huge
multi-hundred million-dollar deal with Google; a self-serve
advertising platform; and a major classified service. President Jeff
Berman is in the middle of all the innovation. |

AutoTrader and NCI: Lessons From the Big Guns
The largest laboratory of what works and what doesn’t in marketplaces remains the tens of thousands of high spending real estate pros and auto dealers — perhaps now more than ever. Leading auto portal AutoTrader and NCI, a leading real estate publisher, are in the vanguard of what’s happening in their industries. CEOs Chip Perry and Dan McCarthy, respectively, are spearheading the innovation that they expect to help them make through leaner times. |

Kelsey’s Parade of Verticals
Much of the opportunity with marketplaces lies with the verticals that extend and energize traditional media. In our “parade of verticals,” we ask key leaders to zero in on their segment, their opportunities, and how they’re approaching it. Their insights are sure to be universal.
