Keynote
Address: Jay Herratti, Citysearch
IAC’s Citysearch has been an industry leader since its launch 13 years ago. Now it has reassessed the local opportunity, given all the developments that have occurred in social networking, mobile, video, mapping and other elements of the local pie. The result: Citysearch G3, its blueprint for the next five years. CEO Jay Herratti, a longtime leader in retail and at IAC, will discuss the analysis that led to many of the decisions behind G3. |

Case Study: How Innovators Are Transforming a Key Local Media Company
Can one company build synergies across an entire market by controlling key media properties? Las Vegas’ Greenspun Media is in a good position to do it, with the local newspaper, city magazine, TV and radio stations and specialty publications. Greenspun Interactive President Rob Curley and Publisher Chris Jennewein—both prize-winning innovators—will discuss their ground-breaking efforts.

The Portals:
Prioritizing The Verticals’ Play
The portals have focused on verticalization as a strategy for
driving more traffic, loyalty and advertising. AOL has been pushing
especially hard on the strategy, with new sites (and business
models) developed for Mapquest, CityGuide, AOL Autos, Careers,
Travel, Events, Food and other key areas. Yahoo! has taken a
different approach, focusing on running social network services out
of its local division. Chris Spanos and Atif Rafiq are running their
respective efforts. |

Leads Summit Our unique “Leads Summit” will put on the table the issues impacting leads: how to get them, how to convert them, how to extend them (and how to get paid for them). In the end, it is all about getting and keeping customers. Our hand-picked summit leaders (Zornosa, Knight Ridder, Women.com; Mohr, Knight Ridder; Laws, eBay’s Shopping.com) have been longtime industry innovators in both local and vertical markets. But in 2009, leads are where they’re betting big. You choose the best approaches. |

Keynote Address: Chris LaSala, Google
Google has a huge stake in the success of marketplaces – and the industry has big stake in Google’s success as well. Circa 2009, the Big G’s effort goes well beyond the sale of AdWords and AdSense. Today, Google has a broad set of tools for various plays (YouTube, GoogleMaps, GoogleBase, Goog411, Calender, Chrome, Docs). What has Google learned about the marketplaces, and what’s the best way to work with it (and maybe, compete against it). Local leader Chris LaSala gives the viewpoint from Mountain View.

The New Wave for SMB Promotions
The opportunity for promotions is huge. But how do you sell locally? What kinds of features and elements are SMBs really looking for? What’s the relationship to Yellow Pages, vertical sites and others? Longtime industry vets Peter Adams (ex LookSmart) and Adam Leff (Move.com, AdStar, AdOne, LA Times) will discuss their respective efforts to develop the ultimate Web 2.0 promotions sites. |

Building Content and Services for the Local Marketplace
Demand Media and Marchex are among the biggest marketplaces plays, providing customized content and social networking services for the gamut of local and national advertisers. Can they put all the elements together in cohesive packages that let them lead the way? Industry vets Matt Berk of Marchex and Larry Fitzgibbon of Demand Media spell out the challenges, and the opportunity.

The Directory Play in Marketplaces
Yellow Pages and the directory play have changed forever, but how? Will small businesses find all their solutions in one package? Will social and media elements take on a significant role? And how verticalized will the whole business become.
We have Web 2.0 leaders from the U.S. and Germany discussing where they see the new trends. |
