Issue: Sprint Publishing Up for Grabs

News: Sprint Corp. made public this week that it is actively considering selling its Sprint Publishing & Advertising (SPA) division. In a statement issued Friday, Sprint announced it has retained Deutsche Banc Alex. Brown Inc. and Salomon Smith Barney Inc. to explore the value Sprint could obtain if it were to sell the directory publishing business. TKG estimates a transaction of the SPA division could be worth between $1.4 billion and $1.8 billion. This would address about 50 percent of the estimated $3.4 billion capital Sprint indicates it will need to fund its FON and PCS businesses in 2002. .
