Issue: Request-Driven Service Builds Momentum in Post-Bubble World

News:, which offers a private-label request-for-bid (RFB) service, has rolled out a new service called Special Offers. It adds a promotional twist to the request-for-proposal/request-for-quote (RFP/RFQ) model, enabling merchants to reply to consumer requests with targeted and time-sensitive promotional offers. One of the few survivors in the request-for-bid space,, which merged this year with netgenShopper, has tried to position itself as a complementary online lead-generation tool for Yellow Pages publishers to offer their customers, service-based businesses in particular.

Following a major shakeout in the RFP/RFQ space in 2000-2001, is making progress in both the vertical directory and the Yellow Pages markets. The company has relationships with Verizon SuperPages, Martindale Hubbell and, more recently, Qwest Dex and Cincinnati Bell Yellow Pages. Currently, has 120,000 businesses in its network and processes 360,000 requests per month.
