Issue: New Structure
Aims to Improve Responsiveness, Accountability
News: The Kelsey
Report® has learned that Verizon Information Services (VIS) is adopting
a new organizational structure that will decentralize the US$4.3 billion
publisher into four profit centers focused around geographical areas.
The move is designed to push authority and accountability down to the
regional level to enable the new units to respond more quickly and effectively
to customer demands and competitive challenges.
According to a companywide
memorandum dated September 2, 2003 (a copy of which was obtained by The
Kelsey Group), the new organization creates four profit centers, each
led by an area president, that are each accountable for sales, customer
care, finance and regulatory compliance, human resources, marketing and
sales operations. The reorganization will take effect on October 1, 2003.
