Issue: How European YP/ISP Spin-Offs Expand Their Influence

News:  In the waning days of 2000, two leading European directory organizations made key acquisitions designed to expand their capabilities and base of operations. Wanadoo, the directory/ISP concern majority owned by France Telecom, acquired Spanish independent directory publisher Indice Multimedia for 400 million euros in cash, stock and assumption of debt.

SEAT Pagine Gialle, Italy's leading directory publisher as well as a major Internet service provider (ISP) and Web portal, acquired U.S. e-mail marketer NetCreations for $111 million in cash. SEAT displaced an existing all-stock bid from DoubleClick that declined steeply in value following the meltdown in dot-com share prices.
