Each year, The Kelsey Report® issues a forecast that measures the size of the global directory industry and applies the most current analysis of trends to project growth of key segments. These have included both print and online directories (Internet and wireless) and, in more recent forecasts, the emerging category of local search.
The bottom line of this year’s forecast is that the global directory and local search market grew 3.4 percent to US$29.7 billion. Traditional print revenues increased 1 percent to US$26.3 billion, and local search revenues (Internet Yellow Pages, geotargeted search and on-demand advertising on mobile devices) rose 33.4 percent to US$3.4 billion. By 2010, TKG forecasts the global print and local search market will reach US$41.3 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of 6.8 percent for the period from 2005 to 2010.
Two new elements of this year’s forecast are global classifieds revenues, which is an acknowledgement of the growing convergence of directories and classifieds, and a look at the breakdown of revenues between fixed and performance-based revenue models.
